Job Description

Position Overview

We are seeking a professional, energetic, and detail‑oriented Senior Accountant to join the Baltimore office. This role is responsible for the day‑to‑day recording and review of financial transactions, accruals, and expenses, as well as the preparation of monthly journal entries, account reconciliations, variance analyses, and internal financial reporting.

This position offers meaningful responsibility, exposure to senior stakeholders, and the opportunity for long‑term growth within the accounting function of a global, independent investment management and strategic advisory firm.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage day‑to‑day operational accounting activities, including revenue and accounts receivable, firm investments, leases, fixed assets, prepaid expenses, amortization, treasury functions, cash disbursements and transfers, cash receipts, and corporate expense allocations.
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly journal entries and account reconciliations, leveraging system tools and automation to identify, investigate, and resolve reconciling items efficiently.
  • Produce monthly and quarterly financial reporting for senior management, applying analytical review and data‑driven insights to highlight trends and explain significant variances.
  • Perform detailed account and trend analysis of general ledger activity using reporting tools, dashboards, and AI‑assisted analytics.
  • Review accounts payable transactions to ensure accuracy and proper general ledger classification.
  • Prepare U.S. regulatory reports and supporting schedules, including quarterly tie‑outs.
  • Support firmwide budgeting and forecasting initiatives through data validation, variance analysis, and preparation of supporting schedules.
  • Assist with year‑end audits and regulatory examinations by preparing documentation and enhancing audit readiness through improved controls and data organization.
  • Stay current on accounting standards, best practices, and emerging technologies, including AI‑enabled accounting and financial systems.
  • Contribute to ad hoc projects, process improvement initiatives, and system enhancements that support the continued evolution of the firm’s finance and accounting function.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of three years of accounting or financial industry experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required
  • CPA license or progress toward CPA exams strongly preferred
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and their application
  • Execution‑focused with accountability for timely, high‑quality work
  • Curious, inquisitive mindset
  • Strong technical aptitude, including Excel and familiarity with AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Copilot) and data analysis
  • Proven ability to build and maintain effective professional relationships
