Job Description

Cole-Frieman & Mallon LLP (CFM) is a prestigious boutique law firm based in San Francisco with a robust national practice, representing private funds (including hedge, venture capital, private equity, and hybrid structures) and their managers. Our firm advises on hundreds of fund launches each year and has highly regarded practices in cryptocurrency/digital asset transactional matters and cybersecurity.

We are seeking a strategic, relationship-driven Senior Legal Recruiter to lead full-cycle attorney and business services recruiting across multiple practice groups and offices, serving as a trusted partner to firm leadership and practice management. The ideal candidate brings deep knowledge of the legal market, impeccable judgment, and a track record of delivering top-tier associate hires, with support for entry-level and summer program recruitment. Candidates with a JD or prior attorney experience are strongly preferred; however, we welcome exceptional recruiting professionals without a JD who demonstrate comparable subject-matter fluency and stakeholder credibility. This is a high-visibility role with direct impact on the firm’s growth strategy and culture.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the end-to-end recruitment lifecycle (intake and search strategy; market mapping and sourcing; candidate engagement and assessment; interview process design and execution; offer development and negotiation; onboarding coordination).
  • Partner with firm leadership to ensure a seamless candidate experience and consistent hiring standards.
  • Advise stakeholders on market trends and compensation; share periodic market intelligence and competitor insights to inform hiring strategy.
  • Build and cultivate diverse pipelines and talent communities aligned with the firm’s D&I goals.
  • Optimize recruiting processes, tools, and candidate experience; manage external search firm relationships.
  • Track recruiting data and KPIs; produce reports and insights for leadership.
  • Ensure consistency with employment policies and legal compliance (including ADA, FMLA, wage/hour, and immigration/visa requirements) in collaboration with HR/Legal.
  • Provide guidance on compliant hiring practices (e.g., work authorization, reference checks, resume screening, preliminary interviews).
  • Liaise cross-functionally to deliver seamless on- and offboarding and integration (e.g., Office Services, Technology/Training, Payroll, and work authorization/visa processes).
  • Develop and maintain consistent recruitment brand messaging and collateral across channels.
  • Participate in salary surveys; analyze results and recommend market-based adjustments to maintain competitive practices.
  • Coordinate or support summer intern recruiting and the summer program in partnership with HR/PD.
  • Support performance-review and promotion cycles (e.g., Senior Associate, Counsel, Partner) in partnership with HR leadership.
  • Collaborate on systems to track professional development goals and mentorship pairings for internal employees.
  • Partner with admin/ops on recruiting-related events and staff appreciation activities, as needed.
  • Perform ad hoc duties to advance talent objectives and firm initiatives.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of legal recruiting experience in a law firm and/or search firm, with demonstrated placement success.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; JD strongly preferred.
  • Strong business acumen and exceptional communication and influencing skills.
  • Meticulous project management and organization across multiple priorities and time zones.
  • Comfort navigating confidential partner-level conversations and complex compensation structures.
  • Proficiency with applicant tracking systems, LinkedIn Recruiter, and data-driven reporting.
  • Knowledge of pertinent employment laws and multi-jurisdictional regulations; ability to counsel stakeholders and influence outcomes.
  • Creative problem solver with high judgment, discretion, and the ability to maintain confidential/sensitive information.
  • Demonstrated commitment to client service, collaboration, and DEI best practices.
  • Preferred: Prior attorney recruiting experience at a law firm and familiarity with the hedge fund/asset management industry.

Attributes for Success

You operate with discretion and integrity, move quickly without sacrificing quality, and build trust with senior stakeholders while taking ownership of outcomes and elevating the candidate experience. You bring a consultative approach to challenging searches and continually refine processes using data and feedback.

Compensation and Benefits

We offer a competitive compensation package commensurate with experience, including bonuses, 401(k) with match and profit sharing, paid time off and holidays, and medical/vision/dental benefits; we also provide paid parental leave and contribute to childcare for up to 12 months upon return from leave. Yearly compensation range inclusive of bonuses: $125,000–$175,000 (based on experience).

We are not accepting agency submissions at this time.
