CONTROLS HARDWARE DESIGNER
Location: Salt Lake City, UT
Reports to: Controls Manager
Compensation: $115 - $130K + bonus

Your Role:
This is a critical, hands-on role within a growing engineering team supporting material handling systems and emerging automation technologies, including AMRs. You’ll own control panel design and build efforts while playing a key role in troubleshooting, commissioning, and supporting systems in the field. As the team evolves, you’ll have the opportunity to expand your skillset beyond traditional panel work and help shape the future
direction of the department.
What You’ll Do:
• Design and build control panels for material handling and automation systems
• Develop electrical schematics, layouts, and component selections
• Order and manage components to meet project timelines and specifications
• Collaborate with project managers and engineers on system design and execution
• Support on-site installation, commissioning, and system validation
• Troubleshoot electrical and mechanical issues in both shop and field environments
• Provide customer-facing support, including travel to job sites (up to 30%)
• Participate in an every-other-week on-call rotation for system support
• Contribute to continuous improvement as the team expands into new technologies
What You’ll Bring:
• Bachelor’s degree in electrical, mechanical, mechatronics, or other engineering (preferred)
• 7–10+ years of experience in controls, panel design, or related field
• Experience in a systems integrator environment (preferred)
• Strong experience with control panel design, component sizing, and schematics
• Proven ability to troubleshoot electrical and mechanical systems methodically
• Experience with motors, drives, and material handling systems
• Proficiency with AutoCAD Electrical or similar tools
• Hands-on field experience with installation and commissioning
• Strong communication skills and confidence working directly with customers
• Ability to manage multiple projects with a high level of ownership and accountability
